One-man operation with radio remote control provides short hauling time and efficient use of staff.
Electric propulsion is energy efficient and requires little maintenance.
Radio remote control puts operators in a safe position.
Harmill produce rail only and rail / road train and bogie moving vehicles.
The gantry travels on rails set into the floor either side of the running rails and is suitable for use on roads with or without pits, this allows: –
The gantry includes a 6m long high level platform for unrestricted access to large roof equipment, low level platforms for train access with a footprint of only 3.2m. A full-length integrated crane for handling heavy equipment such as HVAC units, equipment can be traversed to the end of the train and lowered to the apron.
Integrated task lighting is included. Additional equipment such as power sockets or centralised vacuum systems can also be included.
This solution is considerably more cost effective than fixed high-level access platforms and a crane, running the entire length of the train.
For access to the roof, small adjustable floor panels are deployed either side of the train to close the gap between the platform and the train, these act as kick boards in the stowed position.
Drop-down gates at each end create a safe working area on top of the train.
All gates and floor panels are interlocked to the drive to prevent unwanted movement. The interlock system can also interface with the depot safety system to prevent unauthorised train movement.
The platform is powered by batteries, with onboard charger and inverters. Control of both platform movement and the crane is by radio remote control.
After installation of the rails, the unit can be site assembled and commissioned in one week.
Examples include a varnish impregnation plant, aircraft generator high speed test rig and glass linishing machine.
We undertake fabrication, sheet metal work and welding on a sub-contract basis with our client base spread over industries ranging from hygienic food, chemical and pharmaceutical products to specialist production equipment.
Our capabilities include specialised machine construction, bespoke architectural fabrications and general sheet metal and fabricated components.
Our highly skilled team can offer a fast effcient service in a variety of materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.
Finishes offered include metal polishing, powder coating, anodising and galvanising.
Harmill employ skilled fitting and assembly staff, which means that a customer’s machine can be manufactured fully assembled and tested on a ‘build to print’ basis.
We have the latest 3D and 2D CAD software to handle all drawing file types and can assist with design requirements if necessary in order that our customers get a product that can be manufactured effciently and economically.
Within our 20,000 sq ft factory we undertake CNC bending, punching, brush insertion, milling and turning, MIG TIG stick and spot welding on both ferrous and non ferrous materials, and a variety of operations associated with general fabrication.
Whatever the size of your project, Harmill Systems can undertake the management. With our wealth of experience you can be sure that you are in safe hands.
The installation of this 95 tonne 90 foot long monster test tube was managed by Harmill Systems.
All the civil work and the installation itself was carried out by our own employees.
The 9 foot diameter door which can be seen in the left of the picture weighs 5 tonnes, runs on its own railway track and needed to be aligned precisely in order to seal. This meant that the whole tube as well as the door had to be lined up correctly and this was achieved by Harmill’s own skilled work force using laser technology.
The tube was transported to the site by road at night under police escort.
The movement involved a comprehensive programme of street furniture removal and replacement ready for traffic the following morning.

Turnkey projects such as this 140 metre long dust extraction tunnel are a Harmill speciality. This project was taken from inception through design and build to final commissioning and handover. Dust is generated when servicing the traction motors and carriage ventilation systems, and is collected in the air stream which is drawn down the length of the enclosure by the 110 kW fan outside the building.
Dust is separated in the four banks of reverse jet filters containing 240 separate filter cartridges. A sophisticated control system monitors the operative’s environment and ensures that dust levels are always kept at safe levels. The main fan is inverter controlled to ensure optimum performance and minimum energy costs.
We can design, manufacture and install booths and hood extraction systems for any hazardous product or process. All designs are in accordance with the COSHH Regulations and we issue certificates of conformance on commissioning.
Examples include:
An extracted wash booth designed and built by Harmill Systems. Designed for flammable liquids it has an built in fire extinguishing system.
Extracted wash booth with glove holes for high pressure spray cleaning.
Small sanding booth with built in belt sander, uses stand alone extraction.
High level filtration for booth extraction where floor space is at a premium, incorporates carbon filtration for gasses.
Harmill Systems are able to help with compliance to regulations. If you have LEVs (Local Exhaust Ventilation) and require statutory monitoring, design verification or maintenance then we are here to help.
We can help you carry out risk assessments and decide on the protection that must be provided to operators.
With our state of the art monitoring equipment we can evaluate your needs and ensure that you comply with legislation.
