De-Icing Fluid Storage and Dispensing

Harmill have designed and built a number of systems for de-icing fluid storage, mixing and dispensing to trains.

The control system ensures accurate mixing of de-icing fluid and water. The status of tanks, pumps and valves is shown on a touch screen and this information can be made available to your building management system.

These lightweight aluminium boards are robustly built and precision welded. They can be made to suit any rail profile and can be engineered for obstacles such as fish plates.

All boards are fitted with swivel lifting eyes and can have integral handrail fixings.
Boards can be any length up to 5 metres!

The unique Harmill support and securing device for boards employs a sliding fixture plate which is positively secured without the need for tools.

We also supply heavy duty steel pit boards for fork lift truck use.

The mobile train cleaning platform can be wheeled across the apron to the desired road. The road wheels are then retracted allowing the flanged wheels to contact the rails.
Light-weight and easy to push, this platform can be designed to fit any train profile.

This hydraulic bearing puller allows safe and efficient removal of axle box bearings from the journals of wheel sets.

The unit is fully mobile on a specially adapted pallet truck.

It features a powerful hydraulic ram with a compressed air driven pump – no electronics.

Gags and gates are separate, so the low cost gags can be changed for different bearing arrangements. gags can be manufactured for different wheel sets.

In operation, the bearing is retained on the push sleeve and does not drop off on removal, keeping the bearing and floor clean. The unique design also minimises damage to the shaft.

This hydraulic lifting workstation allows bogies to be raised to an ergonomic height.

The operator can raise and lower the bogie easily using buttons that operate the hydraulic pump.

Harmill Systems are the leading installer of bespoke centralised vacuum cleaning systems.

We have over 14 years experience in the installation of systems both large and small, from clearing swarf to cleaning whole trains and buses. Our systems are highly efficient, robust and designed for harsh environments.

Rubbish is separated into dust and “larger objects” in the cyclone and then discharged automatically into either Euro bins or to a compactor.

Connection is easy with simple push in connectors which are provided at conveniently located positions. On train cleaning systems the connections are on the platform adjacent to the train doors.

We have installed systems which routinely work with the furthest connect point over 150 metres away from the collector.

The control panel designed by Harmill Systems uses a PLC which monitors the system pressures and temperatures as well as controlling the self cleaning of the filter and emptying of the collection bins.

All systems are continuously electrically bonded throughout to eliminate static discharge.

Grid Pallet

Specialist pallet for Tubelines Limited stores a heavy electrical item called a “Grid”. These pallets not only store the equipment but also form the lifting cradle for removing it from underneath the train. The pallets are used in conjunction with a manipulator to lower the grid from under the train. This automatically places them in storage.

Gear Pan Storage Pallet

Specialist pallet design and build for gearbox pans on the Piccadilly Line trains. The pallets are used for pressure washing dirty pans and storage of clean pans. The final design allows quick loading and unloading using fast action toggle clamps (red handles in the picture).

Chain Storage Trolley

Do your crane operators have to lift heavy chains or other attachments?
This special heavy duty lifting chain storage trolley allows the crane operator to attach and detach the heavy lifting chains without manual handling, thereby eliminating associated injury risk. Note the double wheel design to prevent jamming when crossing railway lines.

Battery Powered Train Pit Inspection Vehicle

Able to cope with arduous conditions with elevated temperature and humidity, this robust vehicle makes light work of travelling more than 300 metres under the Shinkansen 700T high speed train.

The vehicles incorporate state-of-the-art control with regenerative braking and on board computer controlled battery management and charging. Maximum vehicle speed is 100 metres per minute, running on specially installed pit rails.

Manual Pit Inspection Seats

This maintenance trolley is used to transport the maintainer and access the required areas. The seat has four axis movement and is fully reclinable, giving the operator impeccable flexibility and control over the work position.

The trolley is produced in two versions, one type runs on cushion tyres on the pit floor, and we also produce an extremely low friction model running on its own rails in the pit bottom.

The advantages of rail mounting become obvious once you test drive it and see just how smooth it is.

The powered mobile scissor lift makes light work of difficult to access side hung train equipment. We can adapt the design to any application of a similar nature. Ideal for heavy bench transfer applications.

Standard table size 1600 x 900 mm, with 1000kg working load. Standard table level 250 to 950 mm.

Large table is 2000 x 2000 mm, with 2000 kg working load. Other sizes and loads available on request.

As an option, the scissor lift can be equipped with a table that tilts and a table that can make fine translation adjustments using handles. This allows fine positioning of items to be installed, making the task easier and faster.

The mobile lift table is powered by onboard batteries and has an integrated 110V charger. An electrically driven hydraulic pump provides easy control of the platform up and down. These functions, as well as standard driving and steering, are operated from an ergonomic tiller.

Correct oil filling quantity is critical in maintaining gearboxes on trains and other vehicles.

The Harmill Oil Transfer Unit saves time and ensures the correct oil filling quantity.

The pre-determined delivery quantity is pumped from the onboard oil tank to the train gearbox.

After initial filling, the operator can add small quantities of oil at the press of a button (0.1 litres) until the desired level is reached.

Storage tanks for waste and clean oil complete the oil filling system. The tanks are equipped with inteligent pumps and quick couplers to automatically fill the oil transfer unit. Avoiding spills creates a clean, safe working environment.

Alternatively, we can provide a simple drain point for waste oil, with a pump to fill an IBC.

The Harmill standard powered hand cart is a flexible vehicle, capable of transporting a number of modules such as the Oil Transfer Unit or Screen Wash Filling Unit.

It can also be used for general movement of materials in the depot.
